Research & Developments
Having started in the year 1984, the biggest advantage we had was the backing of abled leaders whose exposure and educational background played a pivotal role in the company’s research and development. In the year 1987, Sagarlaxmi took a bold step to collaborate for research with the ICRISAT in order to strengthen the ICAR base in BAJRA. Apart from that, an active collaboration was also undertaken with ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi)through its apex organizations viz., DOR(Director of Oilseeds Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, now IIOR), CICR (Central Institute of Cotton Research, Nagpur), Regional Cotton Station of Coimbatore, CIRCOT, Mumbai and All India Coordinated Pearl Millet Improvement Project, Mandor, Jodhpur, Rajasthan for requirements of germplasm and research material, testing of products and scientific interactions.
We also stood out to become a member of hybrid parent research consortia for ICRISAT. By joining hands, we found the support that was needed to carry out the research. This enabled us to add more crops to strengthen our portfolio. The crops included Pigeon pea, Mustard, Sesame, Fodder Bajra, Guar and select vegetables. Added to the family of Sagarlaxmi on the 3rd of July 2002 was the Research and Development unit. Our unit gained recognition for all the exemplary research work we carried out from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) New Delhi.
What we stand to gain from collaborating with premium research institutes:
- Required Germplasm
- Initial breeding material
- Facility for all India testing
- Scientific interactions
- Research workshops
- Conferences and seminars
Sagarlaxmi is blessed to have scientists and staff whose collective intelligence has brought us this far and has gained us many accolades. In order to help them keep up with the advancements of the time, we also encourage our team to attend technical seminars, workshops and conferences that take place across India from time to time.
The four pillars on which our world-class R&D facility stands?
- Infrastructural facility
- Irrigation facilities
- Laboratory
- Scientific manpower
After buying around 20 acres of land in 1987 to build Sagarlaxmi, we acquired another 25 acres in 2009 at separate places in order to expand our functioning. Our state-of-the-art facilities enables us to carry out ground-breaking research that could revolutionize the farming scenario.
Amongst the many top-notch amenities that our R&D unit houses, some include:
- Tube-well
- In-house laboratory building
- Staff quarters
- Storage facility
What we carry out:
- Regular crop improvement process
- Testing
- Trials
- Genetic purity analysis
- Nucleus and breeder seed multiplication
Leveraging modern machinery, we are able to develop top-notch seed processing facilities like auto-packing, warehousing and storage of seeds as well as timely transportation services for marketing.
