Having started in the year 1984, the biggest advantage we had was the backing of abled leaders whose exposure and educational background played a pivotal role in the company’s research and development. In the year 1987, Sagarlaxmi took a bold step to collaborate for research with the ICRISAT in order to strengthen the ICAR base in BAJRA. Apart from that, an active collaboration was also undertaken with ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi)through its apex organizations viz., DOR(Director of Oilseeds Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, now IIOR), CICR (Central Institute of Cotton Research, Nagpur), Regional Cotton Station of Coimbatore, CIRCOT, Mumbai and All India Coordinated Pearl Millet Improvement Project, Mandor, Jodhpur, Rajasthan for requirements of germplasm and research material, testing of products and scientific interactions.

We also stood out to become a member of hybrid parent research consortia for ICRISAT. By joining hands, we found the support that was needed to carry out the research. This enabled us to add more crops to strengthen our portfolio. The crops included Pigeon pea, Mustard, Sesame, Fodder Bajra, Guar and select vegetables. Added to the family of Sagarlaxmi on the 3rd of July 2002 was the Research and Development unit. Our unit gained recognition for all the exemplary research work we carried out from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) New Delhi.

After buying around 20 acres of land in 1987 to build Sagarlaxmi, we acquired another 25 acres in 2009 at separate places in order to expand our functioning. Our state-of-the-art facilities enables us to carry out ground-breaking research that could revolutionize the farming scenario.

R & D Personnels

The company has been gaining ample scientific resources through modern advancements and collective experience. The Managing Director and proprietor of Sagarlaxmi possesses a master’s degree in plant breeding and crop improvement. So right from the research and development aspect to the production and marketing, he plays a vital role in each and every stage. His years of experience makes him an expert at not just R&D, but also at production, marketing and operations. The key to our success lies in his expertise. Apart from drinking from his father’s cup, he also joined hands with Dr. R.M Shah retired research scientist from GAU (Gujarat Agriculture University) since 1995 to gain his perspective and ideas on seed production. In addition, Sagarlaxmi’s R&D unit is home to great stalwarts like Dr. F.C Chaudhary (since 2010) and Dr. A.V Aglodia (since 2013), both experienced doctorate scientists retired from GAU. We have a total of 7 science superheroes who are adept in their own fields. And recently, we added another renowned figure to our team, MR. J.V Shah, Ex-MD of Gujarat State Seed Corporation Ltd, who shall be supporting the technical and marketing needs of the company.
